What we do

The New Forest National Park Authority (NPA) was established in 2005. Our purposes are to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the area and to promote opportunities for public understanding and enjoyment of its special qualities.

We work closely with local communities, landowners and partners to protect the National Park’s unique landscape. Our planning team ensures that all development within the National Park aligns with conservation priorities while meeting local needs.

Through active engagement we promote sustainable practices that enhance the environment and quality of life for residents, visitors, the country and planet. We also focus on fostering partnerships that address climate change, help nature recover and promote sustainable transport, renewable energy and green infrastructure.

By collaborating with national and local agencies, we help shape policies that guide the future of the National Park.

Our education programmes and public outreach initiatives aim to inspire a deeper understanding of the Forest’s natural and cultural value, encouraging everyone to play a part in its protection.

Working in partnership with other organisations it is also the Authority’s duty to seek to foster the economic and social wellbeing of the local communities within the National Park.

Meetings and committees

Our Authority and its committees play a key role in decision-making for the New Forest. Here you can access meeting agendas, minutes archives and find out about other ways to engage with on-going decisions. Stay informed about the decisions shaping the future of the National Park.
