Sustainable travel
As recipients of the Local Sustainable Transport Fund 2011-2015, we invested more than a million pounds to encourage more sustainable forms of transport and behaviour, such as improvements to more than 80km of cycling and walking infrastructure, supporting cycle hire businesses, running the New Forest Tour, establishing the PEDALL inclusive cycling charity and creating the New Forest Walking Festival.
More than 95% of visitors to the New Forest National Park arrive by car. We aim to encourage more people to use public transport when travelling around the Forest to reduce their impact on the area.
We have done this through:
- Investing more than a million pounds in improving infrastructure for cyclists and walkers, supporting cycle hire businesses and promoting sustainable transport
- Running the New Forest Tour which carries tens of thousands of people around the National Park each summer
- Providing grants to businesses and groups looking to help people travel more sustainably
- Supporting public bus services that run through the Forest.
