New Forest trees

Trees are part of what makes the New Forest National Park so special.

Many are genuinely ancient, some several centuries old. These veteran oaks, beeches, and hollies preserve the history of the Forest from its creation as a royal hunting ground in 1079 right through to the present day.

They’re a feature not only of the ancient woodlands of the Open Forest, but of the villages and other settlements that have developed over time as an integral part of the Forest landscape.

Tree works - how to apply and view

'It is no exaggerated praise to call a tree the grandest, most beautiful of all the productions of the earth.'

- William Gilpin, 18th-century naturalist and vicar of Boldre

Keep your distance

Keep your distance from the animals and don't feed or pet them - you may be fined.
